Marilyn Young

Business Analyst, Francophile, ASMR Addict
Biography

Most of Marilyn's life has been shaped by a relentless magnetism toward learning new things.

Growing up, her mischievous curiosity never took a break. She was fond of NPR’s Michele Norris, and with starry-eyed motivation, she remembers watching Bill Nye the Science Guy, mouthing his way through animated demonstrations that were mesmerizing and made science fun.

In college she studied journalism and political science at The University of Alabama. Her focus covered the rise of entertainment news and its growing acceptance by audiences over traditional media. On track to become a professor, she went on to earn a master’s in Media, Culture, and Communication from New York University.

Then it happened—the great disruption.

The rise of social apps like Vine, Snapchat, and Periscope highlighted the growing influence of digital platforms, signaling a shift in how people consumed information. Marilyn recognized the implications for traditional industries and decided to take a deep dive in the digital ocean, redirecting her focus toward expanding opportunities in technology.

Marilyn joined the Institute of International Education (IIE) where she worked with the U.S. Department of State programs such as Fulbright, OpenDoors, and EducationUSA. She gained experience with enterprise content management systems such as Drupal, Sitecore, Optimizely while providing technical support to various teams.

Marilyn adores her role at Square360, her professional “home sweet home” where she fully embraces the company's vision and draws daily inspiration from her matchless colleagues. She is currently exploring AI, particularly Natural Language Processing (NLP) and Sentiment Analysis, along with the ethical implications of their use in SaaS platforms. After using these platforms for meetings, she often wonders with amusement, “Should Zoom transcripts note that I seemed confused today? Did I unknowingly confess through my tone changes? Do I even like this?”

A passionate Francophile, she enjoys traveling to Francophone countries, taking French language courses, exploring French art, music and connecting with French-speaking meetup groups around NYC.
