Lessons Learned from Upheaval: The Digital Game Keeps Going

Upheaval and disruption are everywhere these days, locally, globally and digitally.

If there is anything we at Square360 have learned over the past 20+ years is that when major upheaval happens, things keep moving even if you don’t keep moving. So keep moving, but at a different pace. Don’t get paralyzed. Don’t pull back, lean in. Respond smartly, don’t react.

In 2008, Square360 web branding design work and our digital strategic work for our real estate clients were completely upended by the mortgage crisis. And business kept moving on. As did we and our clients.

In 2020, almost to this exact day, our world was upended by the Covid virus. And again, business and commerce kept moving as the world shut down. Because it had to. Online “everything” became integral and essential and Square360 navigated these crises with its clients. Digital commerce reinvented and innovated and Square360 was a positive part of that response to global fear and upheaval.

In 2025, with 5 of the 7 leaders of G7 countries leaving office, we again see the reality of upheaval in government, culture and society. And yet again, business and commerce move forward. And digital and online strategies once again takes on new importance.

As our team at Square360 watch other organizations scrub and cleanse their websites and reframe their company narratives and even their digital brands, we say, “Urgency is MUCH different than panic. Don’t panic. Be urgent.”
Square360 is telling its clients and prospective clients that upheaval can create both fear but opportunity in 2025 and beyond. This is the best time to evaluate, recalibrate and even revamp and invest in your main digital assets, especially your websites.

Conducting a content management audit and a brand assessment of your digital assets can be and should be done quickly but smartly. Reevaluating your websites and digital assets is a must – as a means to respond to audiences seeking your brand out in these unsettling times of upheaval.

A “wait and see” approach during this leadership epidemic may seem prudent, but your approach also requires a different and more deliberate level of stewardship and alignment of your digital assets. Recalibrate during uncertainty because you cannot stop, you cannot afford to stop. For if you do stop, or pull back from digital and website brand communications, you take the biggest risk of all…being left behind and being left out.
